Tower Jettison Motor. Results of ground tests of the Mercury jettison rocket with a single straight nozzle indicated a thrust of 39 percent of the nominal thrust when attached to the tower structure. In order to increase the thrust and thus improve the separation force, the nozzle assembly was redesigned to provide a canted triple nozzle. ground tests indicated that this change increased the thrust to 68 percent of nominal. The image center bottom indicates probable jettison motor colour.(prototypes only) |
