Little Joe Booster.
NOTE!
| I have up until now avoided posting dimensions that weren't proveable. Thanks to Bill Spadafora, NAA information has quoted some details that I consider reliable enough to post. North American Aviation Missile Division won the contract to design and build the Little Joe Booster. I have also included the dimensions and explanatory drawings for the adapters and clamp rings that were made by Langley workshops. Note that the adapter has 3 inches of parellel bodywork that allows the Booster body to continue up to STA 299, but that 3 inch section is part of the Adapter. The Adapter itself was only 25 1/2" tall, and didn't become the quoted 28" until the 2 1/2" clamp ring was fitted. This is important, station number wise, as for the 3 Little Joe "5" flights, that Clamp ring was not installed to allow the secondry adapter to be bolted to the first. These two details have caused many years of incorrectly quoted dimensions. |
